The Graveyard Book

I think that the book is good so far it is something that I've never read before but it is interesting. It has some humor in the beginning so overall it is something that I can enjoy reading. I think that it is set in the graveyard to show human nature. Humans always judge others even though they do not know them because in the book it shows that ghosts are nice and humans aren't. In the first paragraph of chapter one he talks about and shows that he is using a knife for something and that makes me read on because I wanted to know what happened and why it started off that way. It also does a good job describing the knife and makes the man mysterious and makes me want to find out more and what he plans to do. If I were to recreate the cover page I would add ghosts and make it look more mysterious. If I were to film this book I would keep it in black and white to make it more mysterious, it can make it feel more real like an actual ghost tv show, also if it were filmed in color it would be as it was real and not a fantasy. When continuing to read the book I hope it stays interesting and that a lesson can come out of it.

     I believe you can separate people's personal lives vs what they do for a living. Just like Ayishat Akanbi was saying famous people shouldn't be put above people that aren't because they may not be a good person. Jazzy Journal

 Jazzy Journal! I think that I am going to really enjoy reading this book. I like to learn about what happened in the past and how it changed throughout the years. If the roles were switched and the character were a boy I feel like they would get the same treatment because they story starts out with Jacqueline being young. This story is set where it is to explain the story and tell what happened throughout the story. Also it is set where it is to show if anything has changed at the end of the book. I would film this story in color to show how everything looked because if it is in black and white it isn't showing everything that happened and I feel like more would understand and be intrigued if it were filmed in color. Jacqueline is different from me because I was born where racism wasn't around but also we are kind of the same because racism still exists. Also she was born in the south and I wasn't. Are young adult books too dark?

In the reading "Darkness to Visible" Meghan Gurdon's view is that she wants a young adult book that doesn't contain anything too dark and in the reading "why the best books are written in blood" Sherman writes books for teenagers to help them stand up for themselves and fight their battles.  When Sherman was younger he had to deal with mental illness and abuse and he remembers what that feels like. He wants his readers to feel informed and create ideas for young adults to cope with it. He would get handwritten letters from young adults that loved his book. Over the years dark novels became more normal. Meghan feels that when young adults read dark books and are feeling sad they may get the wrong idea and harm themselves.   I agree with Sherman Alexie because he relates to young adults' lives.
