The Class Canon And Cancel Culture
I believe you can separate people's personal lives vs what they do for a living. Just like Ayishat Akanbi was saying famous people shouldn't be put above people that aren't because they may not be a good person. They can do bag things and they should still be punished for what they do. Also she made a good statement about if someone said anything homophobic another person would cancel them. The person cancelling them has probably said bad things before but since they are on a higher platform they will be more exposed.
According to the author windows are a child's way of seeing the outside world through books and stories and mirrors are a child's way of seeing themselves in the outside world. We need both windows and mirrors because it shows different perspectives. If the person that is reading a story about something bad and they see themselves through the mirror they would know that doing bad things are not something they would do, or if the book talks about helping others the person might see their reflection because they like to help others and do nice things. Some books that I would use in the classroom might be
1. "All Are Welcome" by Alexandra Penfold
2. "I Like Myself" by Karen Beaumont
3. "A Kids Book About Racism" by Jelani Memory
I selected these books because they all represent one thing but also teach about different things. I want to teach about important things that still happen today so they the child is aware of what may happen or what did happen. I also want them to know that they can change the world.
