brown girl dreaming

    I enjoyed this book a lot and it was very interesting to read. Every time I started reading I read so many pages and I feel like that hasn't happened before. I read the entire book and didn't dread doing it and I surprised myself. I like that this book was all about not giving up and family. I was excited to read this book which is weird. 
   This book would make a great movie in color or in black and white. If it were in color it would seem more present and lively and if it was in black and white it would make it seem more real and maybe you would feel what is happening. Also one of the characters I would eliminate is Robert the mom's brother. He was a bad influence and was just in trouble most of the time that he was in the story. 
   Jacqueline and I are different because I wasn't't born in her times and I don't really know her struggles but we are also the same because my grandpa died similar to hers because he smoked and we are similar because we both know what we want to do and will make it happen. 
    The title tells me that a young girl that is colored is dreaming of something that she wants to happen and it is true and her dream does come true not just for her but for her mother as well because she wanted more for them and she did it. 
    This story is set where it is to show everything that she talked about and to show the experience. I feel like this story would be the same if the gender were changed maybe.

     I believe you can separate people's personal lives vs what they do for a living. Just like Ayishat Akanbi was saying famous people shouldn't be put above people that aren't because they may not be a good person. They can do bag things and they should still be punished for what they do. Also she made a good statement about if someone said anything homophobic another person would cancel them.  Jazzy Journal! I think that I am going to really enjoy reading this book. I like to learn about what happened in the past and how it changed throughout the years. If the roles were switched and the character were a boy I feel like they would get the same treatment because they story starts out with Jacqueline being young. This story is set where it is to explain the story and tell what happened throughout the story. Also it is set where it is to show if anything has changed at the end of the book. I would film this story in color to show how everything looked because if it is in black and white it isn't showing everything that happened and I feel like more would understand and be intrigued if it were filmed in color. Jacqueline is different from me because I was born where racism wasn't around but also we are kind of the same because racism still exists. Also she was born in the south and I wasn't. Are young adult books too dark?

In the reading "Darkness to Visible" Meghan Gurdon's view is that she wants a young adult book that doesn't contain anything too dark and in the reading "why the best books are written in blood" Sherman writes books for teenagers to help them stand up for themselves and fight their battles.  When Sherman was younger he had to deal with mental illness and abuse and he remembers what that feels like. He wants his readers to feel informed and create ideas for young adults to cope with it. He would get handwritten letters from young adults that loved his book. Over the years dark novels became more normal. Meghan feels that when young adults read dark books and are feeling sad they may get the wrong idea and harm themselves.   I agree with Sherman Alexie because he relates to young adults' lives.
